In keeping with the company philosophy, The Vic will continue to offer drinkers a traditional but stylish environment in which to enjoy Ossett Breweryโs award-winning ales as well as the new addition of Vinnie Gโs Caribbean Kitchen who are renowned for their menu of freshly prepared chicken, burgers and wraps. In addition to the bar and dining room โ a lounge, pool room and furnished terrace define this outstanding house as a true all-rounder. The pub will also feature all your favourite sporting events broadcasted on Sky and BT Sports from the 4 large tv screens throughout the venue. The Victoria opened in the mid 1800โs to cater for the growing population of South Ossett. Many of its early customers worked in the woollen industry including at the newly-built Victoria Mills of the Ellis brothers. The Ellis family not only provided work, but also housing for their workers just a few yards away from the pub. Over the years the pub acted as a meeting place for miners demanding better working conditions, a place for coronersโ inquests as was the norm with many pubs at this time and an entertainment venue such the โmiscellaneousโ concert staged in 1864 by the owner of a Wakefield music hall. Joint licensee Tanya said: โAs someone who loves the community pub environment, we are excited by the opportunity to run a pub with such a great history in Ossett and the chance to pair our two passions; Caribbean food and great hospitality.โ Tanya who owned a childminding business for 8 years established the successful Vinnie Gโs takeaway in September 2020 selling tasty and fresh takeaway food on a Friday night before subsequently leasing her own premises in Horbury Bridge fulltime. Dale, Tanyaโs partner for 21 years, also owns a tattoo studio in the local area and like Tanya learnt the ropes of working in pubs and clubs from Tanyaโs father who taught him everything from pulling the perfect pint to maintaining the cellar. Jamie Lawson, Co-owner of Ossett Brewing Company says: โThe Vic officially re-opens to the public on Friday 28th January 2022. Having owned the Vic for 14 years and being a local lad from Ossett, I canโt wait for the pub to reopen in its new guise. Dale and Tanya have been friends for years and bring passion, enthusiasm and amazing food with them. Locals will get to enjoy our Ossett and SALT beers, quality wines, a selection of cocktails alongside authentic Caribbean fried chicken dishes. After a challenging last couple of years for the pub industry, 2022 looks like itโs going to be a great year at The Vic!โView the full article
