  1. Yorkshire Evening Post Article SPANISH soccer giants Barcelona started the trend. Then it was the turn of Premiership high-fliers Aston Villa. Now non-leaguers Ossett Town are emulating that illustrious pair by donating sponsorship of their kit to a charity. Town today announced that Wakefield Hospice will have its name and logo on their players' shirts free of charge for at least the next two seasons. The UniBond League Premier Division club has agreed the profile-raising deal to mark the hospice's 20th anniversary in 2010. Firms would normally have to pay £10,000 per season for the right to be Town's main shirt sponsor. The club's commercial manager, Ryan Anderton, said: "We felt it was important to increase awareness of all the good work the hospice does." The new-look kit will be unveiled at Town's final home league game of the season, against Boston United on April 18. Wakefield Hospice business development officer Daphne Leach said: "This is a marvellous opportunity for us. "The visibility and raised awareness that will come from the shirts will be a great help." The deal comes at an ideal time for the Aberford Road-based hospice. Staff last week revealed takings at its shops in the middle of Wakefield had fallen by half. The slump is being blamed on a drop in the number of people going into the city centre during work being carried out. The hospice needs to find £3m a year to care for more than 300 overnight patients and 1,800 day patients. International children's welfare body Unicef was Barcelona's first shirt sponsor in 2006. Aston Villa this season linked up with the Acorns Children's Hospice in Birmingham.
