  2. When I received the letter informing me that I had been called for 2 weeks of Jury Service, I was looking forward to doing my civic duty. After completing my first week, I have to say it is rather boring. The waiting around and then leaving the courtroom while the legal team discuss issues, make your days very long and in fact tiring. Ah well only one more week to go! This week’s blog is shorter than normal due in part to Jury Service. On Tuesday afternoon, I went for a drive around South Ossett. I came across this whopping pothole on Junction Lane. As some wit said on my Facebook page, it was so big looked like an archaeological dig! I reported the issue first thing on Wednesday morning and by Friday afternoon, it was repaired. I accept it is not the prettiest of repairs, but it has done the job. If you know of a pothole or damaged road surface, somewhere within Horbury & South Ossett, please either let me know via Facebook, email or report it directly to 0345 8 506 506. All you need to report is the street name and the nearest house number to the problem. Many people experience financial difficulties for many different reasons and may not realise that the Council may be able to help them. The rising cost of living, which the Chancellor has not really recognised with help to our residents, is a massive concern to many people across Horbury & South Ossett. You may be able to get help and advice to make changes, so you have more money coming in and less going out. To find out how you could save money or get help with money, housing, jobs, benefit support or energy, then please visit www.wakefield.gov.uk/more-money-in-my-pocket or call 01924 305 887 Not a week goes by without some changes to our vital local bus service. In my opinion ARRIVA have a lot to answer for! The latest changes announced by ARRIVA affect many Saturday services across the whole of the Wakefield district and come into play from 25th April 2022. These changes are referred to as temporary. Let’s see how quickly they reinstate these essential services. Services that travel in and around Horbury & Ossett affected are the 120, 120A, 122, 126, 127 many other services are changing - visit www.arrivabus.co.uk/latest-news/temporary-service-changes-in-yorkshire On Thursday evening the Horbury Jubilee group met and confirmed our plans for our Picnic in the Park event on Sunday 5th June. Please keep up to date with our plans via my Facebook page, Friends of Horbury’s Parks and You know you live in Horbury – all these pages will be up-dated as our plans develop. On the subject of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, today Deb Nicholl my colleague and Labour’s candidate in this May’s local elections, planted the first 3 of our 6 Flowering Cherry Trees across Horbury & South Ossett. Newly planted trees are now at the junction of Junction Lane and South Parade in the grounds of the WDH bungalows, Memorial Park and in Carr Lodge Park. The next 3 will be located with Illingworth Park in South Ossett, Reid Park in Horbury Bridge and the grounds of the Methodist Church on Horbury High Street. Signs will be installed closer to the Jubilee weekend. The trees have been paid for by a donation from UNITE the Union and from Deb and Darren. The recently planted COVID tree in Carr Lodge Park has had several daffodil bulbs planted around its base. These flowers look magnificent and compliment the tree wonderfully. Thank you to the kind soul who planted the bulbs, cracking job! On Wednesday afternoon a resident informed me of a tree issue on Golden Square. One of the large mature trees had a broken branch several metres above the grassed area. These trees belong to Wakefield District Housing, and I have notified them of the issue. This will be resolved in due course. If you live in Horbury Junction you may be interested in attending a meeting on Wednesday 30th March. Starting at 7pm at The Calder Vale Hotel, the meeting is being led by the Horbury Civic Society and the subject is to discuss issues and ideas to improve Horbury Junction and to help shape the Civic Society’s Action Plan for the whole of Horbury. Please keep safe and take care. If you need assistance or would like me to be involved in a new local project, please feel free to drop me a line. I will see what I can do to help.
