OSSETT'S Brenda Kerr is charging her way up the football coaching ladder – and aims to show the men just how it's done!
Brenda was just a watching parent 18 months ago, stood on the sidelines and offering support to her daughters Leonie, eight, and Jodel, 10.
Eighteen months on and Brenda now coaches her two girls and their budding young female team-mates for Ossett Albion under-9s and under-11s.
It's been a quick rise for Brenda, previously coach of Dewsbury Rangers under-10s. Immediately after passing her Level One coaching badge, she stepped up to Level Two which she celebrated obtaining last month.
Now Brenda has a taste for it and is aiming as high as possible, admitting coaching the newly- named Leeds Carnegie Ladies or even England is the ultimate dream.
Brenda, who works at Chickenley School, Dewsbury, will now charge into her Level Three coaching course in October, a badge held by just 64 women nationwide.
Women's football continues to grow but a Level Three course will be mixed sex and Brenda says people are kidding themselves thinking women's football is now totally accepted.
Brenda is preparing for the inevitable banter but is determined to show budding male coaches exactly who's boss!
"You still get the men saying 'what, women?'," said Brenda.
"That's why whenever I do a football course I say it's run by a female coach and I think it's better personally for girls to have a female coach.
"That's just a personal opinion as blokes look at you and say 'what do you do – football?'.
"I've looked at the next Level Three class and it starts in October so I think I'm going to be brave and go for that.
"They've not said where it is yet and it will be a mixed sex one as well I should think – Level Two was all- female but I don't think it will be at Level Three.
