Undercliffe won the toss and put us in to bat, opening batter George Hadfield retired not out on 32, Marcus Walmsley 73 & Rishith Upamal 30 to take us to 232 all out. Having 3 first teamers out this week we were ably joined by Phil Lamb, Brad Wood & Luke Watson who took a wicket with his first ball. Matthew Varley 3-29 & Max Chappell 3-37 soon reduced Undercliffe to 135 all out. Some great catches & fielding from all and thanks to SuperSub Jack Sadler for coming to the rescue when George was injured. Jack’s appearance on the pitch set a record at Ossett-since 1972 when his grandad Mike first played, a Sadler has played for Ossett every season! 2XI Captain Conor Andrews won the toss and chose to bat, great innings from Michael Edwards 90 & Dale Shaw 88, backed up by Leigh Leary 25 took the total to 250-8 off their allotted 45 overs. Conor opened the bowling taking 6 wickets for 54 runs, Leigh Leary assisted with 2-46 with a wicket each from Steve Coulthard & Dale Shaw, catches from Nathaniel Lye & Lee Stevenson left Undercliffe failing to reach Ossett’s total by 85 runs. Chairman Lee Stevenson said of the 3 juniors who played today: “What an absolute pleasure as Cricket Chairman to be able to take the field with 3 of our lads today for the seconds, not only was it a great win for us but genuinely each one of them looked like they belonged there and definitely set the fielding standards for the seniors.
