YOUNG OSSETT TRINITY V TONY GARFORTHS VETERANS

On a cold Boxing day morning this was a great show for rugby league supporters to see some old veterans playing rugby yet again against the young lions of Ossett Trinity.

 

The game started with the veterans led by Tony Garforth, Max Fletcher,and Phil Cornell assisted by Tony Walton knocking down the young lions of Ossett Trinity this saw the veterans scoring a try on 15 mins by Andy Shires the goal was missed. Trinity 0 Vererans 4.

 

The defensive work of the veterans was working over time as the old men were blowing a bit with Tony Walton, Jeff Chapple and Stev Spooner taking the burden of the work this saw the lively Sid Lyndsey break the veterans defence and score a 40 yard try under the posts on 25 mins this was goaled by Sid Lyndsey Trinity 6 Veterans 4 this was the half time score.

 

As the second half got under way the young lions put pressure on the veterans with solid forward play from Craig Wood,Sam Mathews and Gavin Westbury this saw some brilliant ball play by Craig Lovelock on 50 mins giving a simple pass to Mathew Tebb to score the goal was missed.

 

Trinity 10 Veterans 4 Both sides then got there defenses working well with the veterans puffing a bit and the legs getting heavy extra work by Clint North and Martin Dransfield and Tony Walton kept out the young lions.Trinitys versatile backs of Alan Grogan and Mark Lodge made the veterans

puff and pant but the old dogs were not finished yet with 5 mins to go the old pit bull himself. Tony Garforth saw the line like Lynford Christie and went for gold and got the try this was goaled by by Jeff Chappell.

 

Trinity 10 Veterans 10 This was to be the final score.

 

The man of the match award was Presented by Kevin Harkin to Tony Walton

 

Ian Ellis presented a cut glass trophy to Tony Garforth for is services to rugby league
